Mrs Mad's humble opinion
8/10 You are working hard. Well done.
What's it about?
A modern day Romeo and Juliet story with a lot of football thrown in!
What happens?
Terry worships Man U, but things are going badly for him. First his wonder team lose to Liverpool, then his parents split up, then he falls for Julie who is drop dead gorgeous and a Liverpool supporter, and worst of all he looks like Chris Evans! Life is just about to get seriously weird for our confused hero.
Is it easy to read?
Quite small text, but easily read. A good choice for boys although girls will enjoy it too.
Anything else?
This was a good laugh and I highly recommend it. It's full of teenage angst, hormones and football. I'm looking forward to reading the follow up, Julie and Me... Treble Trouble.
Other books by Alan Gibbons include Shadow of the Minotaur, Warriors of the Raven.
Who says so?
This review by Mrs Mad.
The publisher reckons...
Part One: Mad About the Girl, or Phil Neville's Lunge Part Two: Wanting the Girl, or Michael Owen's Hair Part Three: Getting the Girl, or David Beckham's Knee Part Four: Losing the Girl, or Theatre of Dreams The day Terry sees Julie in the gym for the first time is the day of the England vs Romania match - the latest of the Great English Disasters - and the day his father announces that he's going to walk out. Things couldn't be worse. Only they could. Gorgeous Julie is a Liverpool fan. Even if he could summon up the courage to speak to her, Terry has a problem. This is Terry's diary as he tries to cope simultaneously with first love, the unexpected break-up of his parents' marriage, and the traumas of the Beautiful Game. A light-hearted, fast-paced, bang-up-to-the-minute and totally credible account of a 15-year-old boy who worries that he looks like Chris Evans, it is Alan Gibbons at his best and most readable.
