A tale of a boy who flies among the clouds, with the spirits of the dead.
When his father is killed, strapped to a kite as part of an important ceremony, Haoyou manages to stop his mother marrying the man responsible, but in so doing puts his own life in danger. He leaves with the Jade Circus and becomes the boy who flies in the sky strapped to a kite. This is just the start of an epic journey that takes him to the encampments and battles of Kublai Khan, leader of the Mongols !
A good read for independent readers, suitable for both boys and girls.
A fascinating story about life in thirteenth century China. This book should not be ignored because it's about the past. It is brilliantly written and full of description. There's murder, love, avarice, betrayal, lust and self sacrifice. This is a gem of a novel - read it now!
