Mrs Mad's humble opinion
7/10 This is quite a good piece of work.
What's it about?
The survival of Tom, the lowest of his kind, hunted by his tribe, he seeks sanctuary in the city of the demons!
What happens?
The Tribe have always lived on the common, they are ruled by a terrible bloodlust, which they even turn against their own kind. Tom is clumsy and going blind he almost causes the tribe to found by Demons and so runs away. Hiding in the city of the Demons Tom is found by two of their young who have never seen anything like him before. Tom is being on all sides, and nobody seems to want to help him, how can he escape and find a safe place to live?
Is it easy to read?
Needs a good level of concentration would suit boys and girls.
Anything else?
This is a complex story and takes a lot of concentration to follow the plot. Ideas that at first you are just guessing are the truth come out slowly, for example the reality of the Demons. It is totally original and pulls you into a world of conflicting emotions and realities. I found that once I had finished it I thought about it a lot, going over what Sally Prue was trying to say and how she achieved it. It's a kind of poetical book in that it doesn't explain everything that you need to know it gently unfolds the important facts and lets the reader work it out for themselves.
Who says so?
This review by Mrs Mad.
The publisher reckons...
A highly original and magical debut novel, about Tom, caught between his elfin home and the world of humans. It combines a gripping story and strong characters with powerful images and insights into what it is that makes us human.
