Mrs Mad's humble opinion
7/10 This is quite a good piece of work.
What's it about?
A scary story made up on Halloween, that won't go away afterwards.
What happens?
Daniel is not happy when his mother's boyfriend goes off to America, leaving his son Aaron staying in their house. So along with his friends Laura and Harry, he sets out to frighten the new boy. And what better time than Halloween. But the bloodthirsty dog they create won't leave them alone, and soon one of them is getting any sleep at night.
Is it easy to read?
A very well written book which sweeps the reader along to the next frightening encounter. A good one for boys but girls will love this too.
Anything else?
Won the Young Telegraph Award 1997. I really enjoyed reading this book, as did a couple of the boys in my class. It is not just a ghost story, there's also some real life thrown in here too which makes it so much more readable. It's snappy and gets into the story very quickly.
Other books by Pete Johnson include The Frighteners.
Who says so?
This review by Mrs Mad.
The publisher reckons...
When Daniel and his friends make up a ghost story about a terrifying dog, to frighten Aaron, what begins as a story turns into a nightmare. Each night the ghost dog, a howling monster, haunts Dan's dreams, and he suspects that what started in his imagination has somehow become real.
